Ron Brown
Started dancing at Triggers Square Dance Club (Greece, NY) in 1987 being taught Mainstream by Mike Herne, and Plus from Mike Callahan and Bruce Shaw during the summer of 1987.
Started calling in 1988 doing guest calling, then taught classes for the Wayne Westerners eventually becoming their Club Caller, taught classes and called for Tecumseh, Copy Cats, Cayuga Cutups, Geneva Friendship Squares and formed clubs in North Syracuse and Rome NY. He has taught classes for the Copy Cats for 27 years and he will have called for 30 years in 2018.
Ron is currently Calling/Teaching for the Copy Cats, Cayuga Cutups and North Syracuse Squares and is one of the Hip Boot Boys. He also served as the Superintendent for Square Dancing for the New York State Fair.
He has been teaching square dancing in schools throughout the State for many years averaging about 1500 children per year. Ron is a member member of Callerlab and Rochester Callers Co-Op. Ron & Dorothy are recipients of the Daphne-Norma Leadership Award.
Ron lived in Greece, Penfield, East Rochester, Ontario and moved to Syracuse in 2000 to branch out his engineering business. He is married to Dorothy (3 daughters) who is working as a Nurse Practitioner for the US Veterans Administration.
He is a Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of New York. He is the Grand Historian for the State of New York and Chairman of Trustees. Ron has authored three historical books of over 200 years of history of Knights Templar – New York State history book printed in 2012 and 2013. Volume 3 is in process. He served as Editor and Writer for a national Masonic Magazine for over 8 years. Ron was recognized in 2017 for having served the Masonic Fraternity for 50 years.
